Teaching Philosophy
A brief summary of my teaching philosophy: I believe that learning is like an ecosystem. Ecosystems are communities of living organisms and non-living components that intricately interact to provide the ecosystem with life. Therefore, each part of the ecosystem is vital to the success of every other part. The same can be said of learning, allowing for the idea of a “learning ecosystem.” The learning ecosystem has inputs such as the students themselves, teachers, and the institution. Outputs of the learning ecosystem occur when students digest, understand, and develop information to create new ideas. I am invested in contributing to the learning ecosystem as an educator with a theoretical and philosophical teaching background that parallels my scientific training as an ecologist.
